Music enhances social skills. The emotional aspect of musical activities seems to be beneficial for developing social skills like empathy, says Dr. Alexandra Lamont, Lecturer in the Psychology of music at the University of Keele

Lise Eliot, in her book What’s Going on in There? Says, “Children’s early experience with speech and music are tremendously important in shaping many higher aspects of brain function, including emotion, language and other cognitive abilities”

Diversity of different kinds of music are essential and can be useful for the baby’s future writing, reading and language skills, says Dr. Philip A. De Fina, associate professor at the New York University School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience, and chief neuropsychologist and director of neurotherapies at the NYU Brain Research laboratories

Studies by two of the leading early childhood researchers, Thomas R. Verny and Rene Van De Carr, have shown that babies who have been stimulated while in the womb exhibit advanced visual, auditory, language and motor development skills. They state – these babies sleep better, are more alert to their environment and surroundings and are far more content than infants who did not receive any form of prenatal stimulation.

Hearing complex sound patterns helps develop the brain, says Alexander Barzvi, child and adolescent psychologist at the New York University Child Study Center

Dr. Frances Rauscher of the University of Wisconsin, says, Music helps improve children’s ability to reason abstractly, by strengthening neural firing patterns of the brain

Professor Paul Robertson, a leading expert in the field, states it’s important the best music is made available to babies at the earliest possible stage of their growth. There is compelling scientific evidence that the music we hear at the earliest ages significantly affects the way our neurological pathways are laid down during development

What do I do if my baby still won’t sleep when I play the music?

There can be many reasons why your baby won’t sleep, hunger, colic, discomfort, noise, fear etc.  Our ebook 21 ways to soothe a fussy baby has lots of useful information.  But always consult your doctor or paediatrician if you have any concerns as to the baby’s health or well-being.

How loud should I play the music?

The music should be played softly, it is an aid to sleep and relaxation and is not designed to be played loudly.

Should I use headphones?

NO! Never put headphones on a baby.  Firstly the baby may get tangled up in the cord, which can be very dangerous.  Secondly it is impossible to judge how loud the baby is hearing the music.  Remember babies have very sensitive hearing and loud noises can have very negative consequences.

Why do I need a new CD every month?

The Dreams and Lullabies music program is carefully designed to work along with your babies developing brain and intellect.  In its most basic form the music starts simply, then develops in complexity from CD to CD.  But it is much more than that.  The program travels through many different styles of music, and introduces your baby to melodies and harmonies from around the world.  This unique program is scientifically designed to contribute to the growth of the neural pathways that play an important role in shaping many higher aspects of brain function, including emotion, language and other cognitive abilities.
